Effective hygiene habits for the whole family

Updated: Dec 31, 2020

The COVID pandemic has wreaked havoc across the world in 2019 and 2020. With the pandemic, however, came an increased awareness of the need for proper hand hygiene.

Effective hand washing can stop the spread of some of the most villainous contagions. How to do it correctly:

Don't begin washing until the water is warm. The warmer the better, but not so hot as to burn you. Be careful with little ones as their tolerance for heat is different than adults.

Use soap. Antibacterial or antimicrobial soap is best.

Get a good lather. Rub your hands back and forth to create a good lather that is easily spread to the surfaces of your hands. If you do not have a good lather, add more soap.

Rub your hands together in such a way that the soap is spread evenly on all surfaces. Don't forget the backs of your hands, wrists, and in between your fingers. If you are able to, clean underneath your fingernails as well.

Make sure that at least 20 seconds is spent in the washing process before you rinse.

Dry your hands thoroughly with forced air or single use towel.

If in a public place, use the towel to turn off the water and open the door before discarding.

When not able to thoroughly wash your hands, use an alcohol based hand sanitizer.
